6 Mile Brooklyn Bridge Hike

Come have a nice 6 mile hike across the Brooklyn Bridge.

We'll meet at Madison Square Park at 23rd St and Broadway, (nowhere near Madison Square Garden), between the fountain and the "Shake Shack", and run a zig-zag course through interesting parts of Manhattan and across the Brooklyn Bridge. If Madison Square Park is filled with some event, we'll meet right at the corner of Broadway & 23rd.

Realize that if I want to meet you, I am not able to fall back and walk with you, because everyone in front of you will stop and wait for me.  I'm stuck at the front.  So I can only get to know you if you walk at the front and join in the conversation.

In Brooklyn, after showing everyone where they can get on the 2, 3, 4, 5 & R subways home, we will go a few more blocks to an (undisclosed) and affordable Polish-American restaurant for dinner in Brooklyn Heights. We expect to be starting dinner at 5:15pm.

<< Note: >> There will be NO bathroom breaks. If you need to use a restroom along the way, you will have to drop out of the group and find one. There is a deli on the corner of 23rd and Broadway, if you go there before the hike and buy a coke or something, you can use their bathroom.

We don't do head counts. If people disappear, too bad - it just isn't practical to go looking for them. By coming on this walk you assert that you are competent, if necessary, to find your own way home.

This event is provided free of financial charge in exchange for attendees relinquishing their right to litigate, and by attending, you agree that you and any guests participate at your own risk, and that you will not take any legal action against the organizers of this group for anything unfortunate that may happen during this outing. There is especially a risk that you will get separated from the group and lost, and if that happens the responsibility will be yours. We will be crossing a lot of streets, and you may get hit by a vehicle, especially if you jaywalk. If you see others in group, including the leader, jaywalking, that does not guarantee that it is safe for you to do the same. Every participant will be required to sign a liability waiver -- you can read the current draft at http://www.bluejacket7.com/legal/WalkingWaiver.doc

Bill, you did a great job mapping out the route, leading us all and finding the restaurant.

I enjoy this walk and this group, and the restaurant was good.

The hike went pretty well, nearly everybody came to dinner and everybody who expressed an opinion really liked the restaurant. Some guy sent word forward that he was injured and needed help, but by the time we went looking for him he had taken off and didn't bother texting his friend that he was OK for about 45 minutes. He wasted about half an hour of 20 peoples' time.

We've got a 50% chance of rain today (meaning a 50% chance of no rain). I'm not cancelling the hike, but do bring umbrellas.

What does being on the waiting list mean? Are you not definately going?

It means you're not going unless enough "yes"s cancel to make room for you. If a spot opens up, meetup will turn your RSVP to a "yes" and send you an email to inform you.

I already RSVP'd to this event, and then got another invite for same time and place. Are there two separate hikes?

No, this one hike is advertised on both the Brainiacs meetup and this one.
