6 Mile Brooklyn Bridge Hike & Dinner

The fountain at the park (map)

Selected By: Bill

Come have a nice 6 mile hike across the Brooklyn Bridge.

Rain cancels.  Snow does not.

We'll meet at Madison Square Park at 23rd St and Broadway, (nowhere near Madison Square Garden), between the fountain and the "Shake Shack", and run a zig-zag course through interesting parts of Manhattan and across the Brooklyn Bridge. If Madison Square Park is filled with some event, we'll meet right at the corner of Broadway & 23rd.

In Brooklyn, after showing everyone where they can get on the 2, 3, 4, 5 & R subways home, we will go a few more blocks to an (undisclosed) and affordable Polish-American restaurant for dinner in Brooklyn Heights. We expect to be starting dinner at 4:15pm.

<< Note: >> There will be NO bathroom breaks. If you need to use a restroom along the way, you will have to drop out of the group and find one. There is a deli on the corner of 23rd and Broadway, if you go there before the hike and buy something, you can use their bathroom.

We don't do head counts. If people disappear, too bad - it just isn't practical to go looking for them. By coming on this walk you assert that you are competent, if necessary, to find your own way home.

Attendance at this event is free, and by attending, you agree that you and any guests participate at your own risk, and that you will not take any legal action against the organizers of this group for anything unfortunate that may happen during this outing. There is especially a risk that you will get separated from the group and lost, and if that happens the responsibility will be yours. We will be crossing a lot of streets, and you may get hit by a vehicle, especially if you jaywalk. If you see others in group, including the leader, jaywalking, that does not guarantee that it is safe for you to do the same. Every participant will be required to sign a liability waiver -- you can read the current draft at http://www.bluejacket7.com/legal/WordWalkingWaiver.doc

Someone asked if she could just come to the dinner. She had her return email blocked and she's not a member of this meetup so this is how I'm responding to her -- no, we don't like people just showing up at the dinner. For one thing, we aren't sure exactly when we'll get there, and more importantly, we have a lot of trouble finding restaurants big enough to handle everybody from the hike, if we accept others, they won't fit.

Hi, I don't plan to stay for the dinner. I am currently on the waiting list. Can I just come for the walk?

Hi Dee, I'd rather you didn't come unless you actually make it into the hike. However, several people usually cancel on the day of, and there're only 3 people ahead of you on the wait list, so you'll almost definitely make it.
