Earned Value Management: from Gantt to Burn Charts

  • Mar 13, 2014 · 5:30 PM

Dear Agile Brisbanites,

For over a decade I have used charts to track and share progress of projects using Earned Value Management (EVM). In the past we used Gantt charts with MS Project but nowadays, in the Agile world, we mostly use Burnup or Burndown charts. In this Meetup I will share my experiences and we will work through a number of scenarios to understand the dynamics of these trend charts.

The following topics are covered:

• Define EVM and provide a brief history of it's use from Gantt to Burn charts as part of Empirical Process Control;

• Show how EVM is used in Burn charts;

• Work through a number of scenarios to understand the (different) dynamics of Burnup and Burndown charts.

Hope to see you on Thursday!

    Thanks for the responses. The presentation slides are now available in the "More - File" section of this Meetup. The Agile Compass with the burn charts is available from the download page on my website

    Good topic, I was sorry I had to leave before it was finished. Nice practical session. Good to catch up with everyone too!

    It was great to catch up again. Chris presented EVM concept and we all enjoyed doing bit of theory and practice together. Thanks.

    Really enjoyed the interactive nature of the Meetup. Chris, will you be posting the last 6 scenarios so I can run through them with my team ?
