Agile User Experience Workshop

Join Ed Wong in a workshop which will explore user centred design techniques that business analysts can bring into their repertoires.

We will be working through ways in which you can employ UX techniques to:

  • develop a shared understanding of your users
  • add visual information to your product backlog and user stories
  • work with UX colleagues on agile teams

Ed will be joined by Mark Mansour from Agile Bench. We will take a real world situation in the development of the Agile Bench tool, as the basis of an activity

Ben Tollady, Director of Melbourne UX agency, Thirst Studios, will also be on hand to answer any of your questions about real world projects.

-----------------

Seeing as Ben was so reticent to promote this, I'll do it for him.

Thirst Studios do a weekly newsletter with their favourite links on all things Web, Technology, UX, UI & Design. Here's a bit about it, with a link to sign up:

Sorry for the late entry, it's been a hugely busy week for me. I'd like to share a few of my learnings:

1-) Design Studio is a very good technique to stimulate ideas and work together on a particular project/task. It produced a wealth of great ideas and it was a fun activity. The only limitation was the shortness of time. Ideally groups would need more than 8 minutes per activity but I agree that there needs to be a time limit.

2-) I really liked the collaborative, win-win approach in this session. We were able to practice our skills and abilities on a real life problem. Everyone took the task-at-hand very seriously so there were some genuinely useful ideas for the problem owner as well.

3-) The openness of the problem owner about the problem gave us the freedom to try to solve it in as many creative ways as possible. Some groups took a complete redesign approach where others tweaked what was already there. The wealth of ideas was a direct result of this open-minded approach.

We turned the limit off as people have signed up and not changed their RSVP when they can no longer attend or pulled out at short notice. This meant that people on the Wait List were missing out, even when we had space.

I think what happened is that those who were on a waiting list before we turned the limit of didn't get added to the Yes list. This may be a bug with Meetup, as I think this is supposed to happen. I will manually change this. Everyone is welcome. Wednesday's venue has a maximum capacity of 100. If you arrive in a timely manner then you should be OK.

Hello Ed..me too ..am on the wait list. Can you check if there is room available to accommodate me. Thanks !! - Cheers Apeksha

    A word on the format:

Mark Mansour will introduce us to a user issue he has in Agile Bench. Ben from Thirst Studios is then going to suggest some UX techniques that could be used. We'll then do a short Design Studio workshop, so please bring something to draw/sketch with.

NB - The Design Studio format, is similar to the Problem Solving with Agile UX session that Pete Grierson and I ran at LAST Conference 2012.

The Microsoft venue can fit up to 100 people in lecture format. In the Design Studio format, we might have to be creative with moving chairs around, and finding surfaces to use for sketching.

Had to change the date to 17th April because of availability issues. I also think I am going to follow Craig's lead from last meetup and remove the attendee limit, with the caveat that we can only fit a certain number of people in the room. I'll confirm what this number is ASAP.
