Agile Denver Kanban SIG: is a forum for those interested in learning with others about applying lean and agile principles along with pull/kanban system concepts to assist with catalyzing and managing change to improve their business workflow processes. It is a special interest group (SIG) of the Agile Denver group, and is also loosely associated with the global Limited WIP Society and Lean Systems Society groups.

Hi All,

Our March 2014 SIG meeting is scheduled for Thursday March 13. We are looking for a host, but will fallback to the Arapahoe County Southglenn Branch Library if we don’t find one. I will provide an update ASAP.

Also, please add a comment identifying a “deep dive topic” you’d like to have the group discuss during our 1st hour (ex. could be recent/current book or article you’ve read or are reading related to lean, kanban, pull systems, a specific challenge or question you’d like to discuss with the group, etc.). We’ll then continue using a “lean coffee” format for the 2nd hour of our meeting to do some quicker hits in a JIT (just-in-time) manner on a number of other topics of interest to those attending.

    Hi All,

Thanks again to Jim G and David M for hosting our mtg at CenturyLink's north metro location. Thanks to Dan W too for the help in organizing this mtg.

Maybe it was the first time for us in a north metro location or the pizza our gracious hosts provided, but I was truly impressed by the awesome "real-world and on the shop floor" experience shared last night. I rank it as one of the best discussions and mtgs we've had over the last 2+ years of our SIG and it made for some great networking too as I saw many, many on-going conversations after our mtg "officially ended." :)

A quick reminder that we'll not meet in April (we'll pick back up in May) . Many of us are volunteers or will be attending the MHA2014 Conference next month, and we like to limit our WIP ;)

Also, if you're interested in hosting an upcoming Agile Denver Kanban SIG mtg at your company location in the metro area, please contact me or Dan W.

    Take care,
    Frank

This was a great conversation, and well-facilitated. I really appreciate the northern location, too. Thank you to everyone who attended!

(Logistics note: Could be running behind, have to detour en route.)

Scratch that. Better luck next time. Detour is an understatement.

Deep drive topic: Scale Kanban framework like SAFe with using Kanban WIP and coordination points instead of Scrum.

    Hi All,

I see a number of new faces indicating intent to attend this months SIG mtg. It will be interesting to find out if a "northern" location this time is contributing :)

Re: Deep dive topics, I'll throw one out there for consideration. I had an "offline" request to discuss forecasting using flow metrics (ex. using lead times and throughputs). I could see a number of interesting directions we could take this topic so we'll probably have to zero in on one for our deep dive hour (we can always cover others in a later mtg ;)

One in particular I'd like to introduce is how we might take a more "probabilistic" approach to forecasting (ex. Monte Carlo simulation).

If you have any other ideas, please add a comment here.

    Take care,
    Frank

    Hi All,

Jim Gately has graciously offered to host our meeting at the CenturyLink campus north of town.

    Per Jim:
It's easiest to come in from 53rd and Federal, unless you come up Speer onto Zuni. The gate on 53rd is always open. It's right next to the AT&T microwave tower which is 10 stories high, can't miss it! It's the largest of the buildings on this campus, loads of parking including under cover, just check in with security guards and they will direct folks.

Looking forward to seeing many new and familiar faces.

    Hi All,

Dan thanks again for getting the next mtg date info posted. Re: location, we do have someone who is interested in hosting at their company location that is more on the north end of town. However, we're still working to see if we can make the needed arrangements for reserving the conference room for the March 13th date. So please check back soon on for an update. As many of you know who have attended an Agile Kanban SIG mtg, we really like it when a member/attendee is able to host the mtg at their company location (it is always a richer experience being close to the shop floor). To that end we're very interested in finding a few members with sites in the north part of town so we can mix it up some and not have all of our mtgs on the south end of town. As we go forward, if you're interested, please contact Dan or me directly.

    Thanks!!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
