Wildcard Unconference 2013

With the motto 'Everyone's invited!' we're planning to go even further. Now we aim at bringing knowledge sharing authorship to everyone.

We select unconference format, because it creates the space for peer-to-peer learning, collaboration and creativity. Anybody can submit the talk, and the agenda is created by the attendees themselves. The sessions convened will range from formal to informal: from the well thought out talk reflecting years of practice to the ‘new idea’ that would be fun to talk about, from the demonstration of a working tool to the white-boarding of something completely new.

Want to try yourself as a speaker? Or to handle a discussion of the question you're interested in? Maybe show some cool stuff that you want to share? That's your chance to shine. Submit your session by selecting one of the formats: a short presentation, group discussion, 'Show and tell' or 'Learn how to do X'. Submit your session here.

Now it's your time to choose what you would like to attend. Make your choice among submitted sessions to learn something new or to meet people interested in the same questions as you are. This is a unique opportunity to make your very own event. Vote for the sessions here.

Aigars Staks with 'Agile vs. Chaotic projects - similarities and differentiations' session. Aigars will share field experiences and many observations for the Agile adaptations in various programming set-ups. Some of them has been catastrophic, others very successful.

What makes not standard waterfall models to fail or ether to be successful? Is it determined by the size, by customer or by developer teams? How agile can be used to avoid chaos and cost overrun at any parties side?

Arvids Godjuks 'Queues should invade your project!'
Language: English. Type: Show and tell. Details: Queues. More often than not they are associated with massive projects or some special uses, big setups and special tools for the job. The odd thing is that we are so used to our workflows, that for the most part we don't even consider them. When we think "queues", thinks like RabbitMQ, Redis, Haskell, C and others pop to mind - we usually hear about them in those context. I'm on the quest to show that they can be used even in small projects and greatly improve middle-sized projects.

Alexey Luchko 'The matter of understanding'
Language: English. Type: A short presentation to get things started. Details: The goal is to start a discussion what do we do in the software engineering, what could help in getting to beautiful working code. The idea is to start the discussion with a christmas hat problem when we need to distribute presents among people taking part in a party and these presents are originated by those people. It looks easy but it is just a top of a huge iceberg. The idea comes from one of recent meetups in Riga on pair-programming where people tried to solve http://rubyquiz.com/quiz2.html and came out with nothing. The most amazing note was that people after the failure didn't try to take a different perspective of the problem itself, but were only looking at the situation of the meeting.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
