Agile on Tap - Autumn

Agile on Tap is back for its Autumn event with a great line up of two internationally renowned speakers from the tech circuit. George's will be here straight after launching his book to tell us all why now is a great time to develop bravely in the app space, and Iris a recent new addition to the comparethemarket tech team will be talking about her experiances of taking a scrum based approach to learning.

Speaker: George Berkowski
Title: How to build a billion dollar app.

Bio:
George is the former Head of Product at hit startup Hailo, one of London’s fastest growing startups, was one of its first employees and author of How to build a billion dollar app . Now he’s looking at bringing the chartered private jet business online through FlyVictor. He is also the Chairman of the MIT Enterprise Forum UK. He co-founded and ran product at WooMe, which grew to 10 million users before being acquired by Zoosk, served as the Head of Internet Strategy and eCommerce at BT, and as the VP of Marketing for MirCorp – who made Dennis Tito the first space tourist by arranging his trip to the ISS.

Synopsis:
More than 1 billion people use them every day. In four years, 500,000 have been downloaded over 35 billion times. Only twelve have cracked the code of making it billion-dollar big. Apps are changing the way we communicate, shop, interact and travel. They dominate everything we do, and have become the means by which we manage our lives. George Berkowski is one of the masterminds behind HAILO, the app which allows us to call taxis from our mobile phones. In this head-spinning event, George will draw on his experiences as a tech entrepreneur, share the secrets of the top app companies, and show you how to translate your app ideas into reality.

Speaker: Iris Classon - @IrisClasson
Title: Agile Learning- Scrum Methodology Applied To Professional Development

Bio:
Iris Classon is an appreciated speaker, writer, blogger, Microsoft C# MVP and member of MEET (Microsoft Extended Experts Team) with a tremendously passion for programming. She has had a remarkable career path that proves that nothing is impossible- switching from being a licensed and registered clinical dietician to a software developer with a dozen certifications and a full time developer job with renowned companies.

Synopsis:

To stay on top of your game you need to stay on top of current trends and changes in your field of work. But as the world is spinning faster and faster, how do we best manage the flood of information and resulting pressure? Education has been due for a change for a long time, and many argue that the old as well as current approaches aren’t good enough. Many schools are embracing agile learning, with good reasons and good results. In this session I will cover what agile learning is, talk about what science says today with examples from the school I attended. The session is wrapped up with practical advice and a detailed walk-through of my scrum based approach to my professional development that has had a great impact on my career. You will leave the session knowing what agile learning is, how it is being used, results seen, and an example of how it can be implemented. Hope to have get pleasure of seeing you there!

Thanks for organising - good to hear the App story and reassuring to hear from Iris that the more you know the more you don't know :-) Anyone going to DDD East Anglia tomorrow?

My first attendance travelled from London to attend. Was hoping for more technical discussion - but worth the visit, I will attend the next meeting.

Thanks for the feedback Phil, we do try to vary the content a little to account for technical and non technical discussion. Agile Peterborough also runs an event called What the HTML which tends to be technical and focuses on front end development. Was there something specific you would like to hear about?

  • Tricia P.

Was really nice to hear about the backstory of the speakers and to know that we are all still learning and we don't know everything. Great advice on 'how to create a billion dollar app' and good techniques for living the Agile lifestyle! Well done Agile, well done!

Sorry couldn't make it something come up last minute. Looked like I missed some great talks! Were they recorded?

    September 11, 2014

    • Dave H.

Some guy was there with video kit but it looked unattended during the talks - not sure if it was on some sort auto-mode.

    • Alex S.

Don't worry there was multiple cameras. "Some guy" is Lewis Cater, a local director who helps us out and creates some truly amazing music videos. The talks are available at vimeo.com/agilepeterborough
