This was a very insightful presentation. Thank you Hiranabe Kenji and the organizers! It’s worth reminding ourselves that, as Kenji noted, the goal of the talk and the video was to show the original concepts of TPS and to teach us about the underlying concepts behind Lean. As tempting as it is though, to draw analogies and to jump to quick conclusions about what Lean Software Development practices are - based on the examples we saw in the video - the worlds of manufacturing and product development are far apart and those practices can’t be translated literally from one discipline to the other. It took many decades of experimentation and learning and educating (by people like the Poppendiecks, David Anderson, Don Reinertsen and Hiranabe himself) for those ideas to find their way into product development (see Kenji’s blackboard slide Andrei posted) and for the still-evolving Lean Software Development to start defining its own practices (e.g. Kanban)
