Sake Tasting

Please note that the time has changed since this event was first posted. The new time is 4:30pm-5:30pm!!

**How about some food afterwards in Berkeley? I'm thinking about heading down a few blocks to the Marina or 5th street. You may want to consider comfortable walking shoes...

Sake Tasting & Sake Museum

In Japan "sake" or "o-sake" refers to alcohol in general. And although it usually referred to as "rice wine" sake is actually closer to beer in how it is made.

We will learn about what sake is, how it is made, and then do some sake tasting!

Cost

  • $5 for tasting (you can paypal me $5.30 if you want to pre-pay. otherwise you can pay them directly when you get there)
  • 1 hour for tasting and museum (10 minute video)
  • 1 hour validated parking
  • 21 years and older ONLY - bring your ID!

Takara Sake USA in Berkeley makes:

  • Sho Chiku Bai sake
  • Shirakabe Gura sake
  • HANA flavored sake
  • Takara plum wine
  • Takara mirin
  • Takara Shochu Collection
  • Takara Can Chu-Hi

They take pure snow melt from the Sierra Nevada Mountains and superior rice from the fertile Sacramento Valley.

PICTURES! The final draft of the sake tasting pictures are officially posted. After last night's transfer, I discovered a couple of pictures didn't transfer due to a faulty internet connection. Things have been corrected.

You might try watching the picture album in "slideshow mode". It should tell "the story".

Excellent experience, I never seen so many Sake varietals...and as always the Ai Explorer participants made the whole event a pleasure.

    Cheers,
    Raf

As usual, I don't remember a thing after the first drink. If I insulted your mother, I deeply apologize.

Meanwhile, where are my clothes and can someone bail me out of jail?

Does anyone else think it's awesome that we have a Neo and a Trinity on the RSVP list? Does anyone want to change their name to Morpheus?

    Sneak preview of Coming Attraction...

Alisa, ever see the movie "The Exorcist"? My voice will change, my head will spin, and I'll spew "pea soup". But it's all good fun!

    FYI, everyone...

After I've had my 28th shot of sake, no matter what I say OR promise you in exchange continue to restrain me on the floor. I should be fine after an hour.

    Sunday is better for me!

Would prefer Saturday. Sunday is the Palo Alto World Music Day, which I imagine many people in this group would appreciate: http://www.pamusicday.org/

Are they open on Sunday? If so, perhaps we may push it to Sunday.
