Akron Software Developers Guild - Code Crafters Meetup

Each month, Oct thru March, Code Crafters in the Akron area will gather to pair, share and sharpen your saw in pursuit of the agile and lean software development practices.

The emphasis will be on learning to become better code crafters. We will work in pairs and test drive code. We welcome those that would like to lead a kata or bring in speakers regarding agile software development. This is a time to experiment and learn. It is a time to code for fun as we learn and grow as professionals

As always, we will have something to eat for as we all know you can't code on an empty stomach. Place your vote for the best programming finger food in the poll (under the more drop down menu).

Sorry I missed it. My wife's expecting this week (so not good to be away from home more than necessary!), and I forgot I had rsvp'd. Nice to have the chance to work on katas again. I always swear gilded rose was pulled straight out of some of our legacy codebase. :p

Gilded Rose kata - so much learning from such awful code.

Fun and educational. Once Pat and I got around a WiFi issue we managed to get a lot accomplished. Looking forward to future meet ups.

How many times have you had to make a change to a legacy code base but were afraid to because you just knew you were going to break something? That is the subject we will be dealing with in this meetup. We will be doing a code kata that deals with having to add a new feature to a code base that is pretty scary to begin with (as you will see). We will start by creating a suite of tests based on a described set of existing features. Then we will be able to refactor the code to make it easier to introduce the new change.
