Introduction to Studio Setup and Lighting

This studio and flash photography workshop will offer an introduction to setup and studio lighting.

We will start with a 'blank room' and we will assemble the seamless background, the flash heads and accessories. Then we will light a typical 'high key' portrait setup using a flash meter and single, and then multiple flash heads.

You will learn how to set up a studio to shoot, how to manage monoblock flash heads, softboxes, light modifiers, flash settings, ratios, how to pose a model and how to work with wireless flash triggers.

Each attendee will have the opportunity to shoot using the setup, and using the wireless studio flash system.

Bring your camera and your enthusiasm.

The Meetup will run from 12 until about 4PM.

Maximum of 10 attendees. Cost will be $29 per person.

Great session Graham. Thanks for the detailed information. There were several "Aha" plus one or two "Huh?" moments for me. Now my poor husband has to be my model as I try to recreate the studio setup. Good group and good topic. By the way, I searched on eBay and found some good deals from B&H and Adorama on the cold shoe adapters. Thanks again.

You might want to engage this group of attendees in the "Huh" topics and see if those can be resolved too!

Very informative. While it is an introductory class, it's fairly technical, so it's not for beginning camera enthusiasts, but for those who at least understand the exposure triangle. That said, the material is technical because he knows what he's doing, and wants you to understand exactly why each step is necessary.

Nick, thanks for your input. It helps is a student has the basics, but the aim is to impart that knowledge if not.

even though I had to leave early, it was good. You started with the basic stuff and explained in detail all the aspects related with lighting. Great job Graham.

Try logging into Paypal directly, not through meet up. I suspect this is a paypal issue not a meet up problem.

and you can also pay by credit card WITHOUT an account. Just don't log in.

Dumb question maybe for this class, but do we get a model release?

    January 17, 2014

    • Graham B.

There are no models to get releases from. The students are the subjects.

Allowing us to start from scratch and setup one step at a time is great. What brand of lights and triggers will we be using?
