Introduction to Studio Setup and Lighting

This location is shown only to members

This studio and flash photography workshop will offer an introduction to studio setup and lighting. We will start with a 'blank room' and we will assemble the seamless background, the flash heads and accessories. Then we will light a typical 'high key' portrait setup using a flash meter and single, and then multiple flash heads.

You will learn how to set up a studio to shoot, how to manage monoblock flash heads, softboxes, light modifiers, flash settings, ratios, how to pose a model and how to work with wireless flash triggers.

Each attendee will have the opportunity to shoot using the setup, and using the wireless studio flash system.

The Meetup will run from 12 until about 4PM.

Maximum of 10 attendees. Cost will be $25 per person.

Hi Alex, as long as you have a hot shoe. We will use pocket wizards to trigger flash.

Does anyone want to carpool from No. Oakland/Emeryville/So. Berkeley area? Sounds like parking might be a challenge.

another big difference between using monoblocs and speedlights: there are a limited number of continuous firings on speedlights before they overheat. e.g., an SB600 needs 10 minutes to cool down.

It was very informative, hands-on, and fun! I learned a lot from Graham and other photo enthusiasts who came.

Just what I was hoping for. We got to try out all the equipment and learn about how to make it all work together.

Graham is an excellent instructor. We had every skill level in the group and he was very patient with all of us. We had great fun. I learned a lot and can't wait for the next lighting session.

This was a terrific workshop! Some of the things I loved about it: * Excellent, excellent instruction. Just amazing. So much practical, useful information presented in a fun, engaging way. I learned so much in 5 hours and came away with a clearer idea of where I want to to focus my efforts. * Great balance of "classroom" instruction with hands-on studio practice. * Perfect class size -- small enough for individual instruction, large enough for diversity of skill levels and experiences. * Fantastic vibe! So much fun to be in a room filled with people who love photography, are eager to learn, and are equally happy to share their own knowledge with others. I really enjoyed meeting -- and learning from -- everyone. It was a really fun group and I had a great time -- in spite of the pop math quizzes (Graham!). ;)

Great meet up! We covered a lot of information and I learned a great deal about adjusting lighting settings both singly and in groups. Very much worth every minute! And what a fun group of people as well!
