Moonrise Hike at Government Canyon-RSVP by Phone Required

We will hike the Sendero Balcones Trail to Far Reaches for an arrival near sunset at the Sotol Overlook. We will hike in the twilight to the Chula Vista Overlook to view the rise of the full moon over San Antonio on the skyline. We will return via the Recharge Trail to the parking area by about 9 PM. This hike is about 7 miles in length and is rated as moderately difficult. Good hiking boots, a walking stick or pole and a flashlight are required. To RSVP for the outing you must contact the leader, Jerry Morrisey, at 382-2614. You must have demonstrated the ability to hike 7 miles in rocky terrain in past few months and be comfortable with a moonlight walk to be approved.  The outing is subject to cancellation in case of unfavorable weather.

I want to add my thanks to you, Jerry, for a great hike. This was the first time I have hiked in the woods at night, and, with the full moon and simpatico fellow hikers and great leader, it was a memorable experience. And thanks to Tina for the pictures of the full moon!

Thanks Jerry for organizing a great hike! Great group of people. Fabulous weather. Perfect timing on the moon rise. Truly beautiful with the bright stars and overlook of the city lights.

I am going to have to cancel--I did something to my leg on Sunday and it is not getting better. I don't want to risk getting 3 miles out and being in too much pain to walk back. Really sorry to miss this, the weather will be perfect and the full moon! Very sad :(

Get some rest and let your leg recover for future hikes.

Did one of these in Runyon Park, Hollywood, for the January moon. It was a hoot.
