Introduction

I started this group to meet people to run with and to keep me running regularly. Running doesn't need to be a solitary activity. I prefer to run on trails. I completed the 2010 Badwater Ultramarathon. Visit my website at badwaterdoug.webs.com

How did you hear about Alamo Running Buddies?

I created it.

What days and times are best for you to meet for runs? We want to offer runs throughout the week, morning and night. If mornings are good, what's the earliest and latest you could meet? If evenings are good, what's the earliest you could meet.

Tu/We/Th & Sat/Sun mornings and evenings. The earliest I can swing on weekday mornings is 5 AM and the latest is 5:30 AM. On Weekday evenings the earliest I can manage regularly is 6:30 PM.

What part of town are you in; NE, NC, NW, SE, Alamo Heights, Balcones Heights, etc? We are interested so we can plan convenient locations to meet at. Do you have favorite spots to run already that would be good for a group to meet at ?

In in the Castle Hills area near Wurzbach and Lockhill.

What level do you feel like you are at with your running; couch potato with running shoes, novice, developing heart and lungs, ready for some 5k/10k races, intermediate, specialist, advanced amateur, Olympic hopeful, pro?

Intermediate/specialist. I'm into Ultramarathons. I don't run very fast, but I train to run long distances. I break my training into short runs.

What is your typical average training pace, or how long does it take you to run a mile, 2 miles, or 3 miles? What distances are you wanting to run? Are you training for a particular event?

8-10 min/miles depending on distance.

Additional Information

"I am training for Ultramarathons, 100 mile trail runs. My training distances and speeds vary. I'm not that fast. I do my longer runs on the weekends. I'm near Wurzbach/Lockhill. I run all over town/area. I prefer to do trail running when I can."

What Doug Ratliff is saying about this Meetup Group

The group has lots of different days and times to participate. The organizer is very flexible. There are routes to meet anyone's goals and desired training distances.

  • How far do you plan on running at Gov't Canyon next Sunday?

  • Hi Doug, How about a talk on running injuries on Saturday June 4 or Sunday June 5? Would that be too far in the future? I could do it anytime on either of those days. Will probably just have folks gather round my laptop. =)

  • Hi Doug, Sorry for the delayed response. I would be happy to give a talk on running injuries to the group. If it could wait until May, that would be a great month for me - if not, I could also do it in April. March is a little busy.... Blair

  • Doug,

Unfortunately I wont be able to make the run tonight after all. I forgot I have an appt in the evening. Otherwise, 6:00 PM would actually be a very good time. Hopefully, I'll be able to join you and the group next time.
