With the time change we are running in the dark more often.

If running on roads, please make sure cars can see you; light colored visible clothing, reflective wear, headlamps, flashing lights, etc.  I recommnend...

If running with music please turn the volume down enough to hear what's going on around you, or better wear only one headphone, or best - don't listen to music while running.

Run in a group.  You are more likely to be seen.

Run on a trail - there are no cars.

Parking and vehicle break -in's

We are working with police, city parks management, and the state, to improve security at trailheads.

What the police are asking of all of us...

Don't leave valuables visible in your car, or better, do not leave valuables in your car at all.

Don't hide things, or put things in your trunk when you get to the parking lot.  Criminals have been watching people do this.

Be observant; suspicious people and behavior, report it; Park Police 210-207-8590.  Work to be specific.

If having a group run, call the park police in advance at 210-207-8590 so they can patrol the parking lot; they are expecting the calls.

Please be aware that there have been some assaults on women along the I-10 corridor.  Perhaps unrelated there was an attempted assault on a female runner, on the Leon Creekway Trail near the Oxbow trailhead.  It was around dusk.

Again, run in a group, not alone.

If alone, be wise to time of day, lighting, and surroundings.

Carry pepper spray - I recommend .  Works great on loose aggressive dogs of all species.

Be thoughful about where you park.

Please be safe, alert, and wise.
