10 Tips For Trails

Practice on smooth trails before progressing to rough trails.

Look ahead 10 to 20 feet and occasionally scan farther
down the trail.

Shorten your stride (and possibly quicken your pace) , especially on steep
uphills and downhills and rough terrain.

On rough trails, aim to step between rocks and roots rather than on top
of them.

Think tortoise over hare, i.e. RFM (Relentless Forward Motion) is more effecient
than blast-and-gasp style.

Don't be shy to power hike the uphills.

Before heading out, tell someone where you're running and when you
expect to return.

Relax, breathe deeply and "flow" over terrain.

Develop a strong core (abdominal, back and hip muscles) to help you run with
alacrity in response to the terrain, and use you arms for balance and momentum.

For runs exceeding an hour, carry water or energy drink and snacks such as gels and bars.
