Hi Kelly,
Firstly, thank you for taking over the group as organizer and sharing your ideas and opportunities for ideas and good rates!!  Being an event planner and PT airline employee is such a big  advantage to a group like this. We are lucky to have you , and I for one welcome you and again thank you!  You have some great ideas and seem very positive and upbeat!! :)
Having said that, i feel compelled to say that Marilyn ,I find your email to Kelly and the group both rude and unwelcoming. There are many of us who would and could enjoy some weekend trips in addition to day trips should a good deal and the opportunity arise. Sorry if your life doesnt allow for that. I dont feel it necessary for you to dictate how the group should be run and put down Kelly's ideas.  Granted there is lots to explore in our own backyard as you mention. But I do agree it is a big world out there and lots to explore that is further away.  And yes, some of us do make time and get time off to explore traveling opportunities.
I believe that these meetup groups are an opportunity to share experiences and make new friends and welcome the opportunity to do so.
Thank you again Kelly and good luck!!
Sharon

Good luck Kelly. Regret having to point out the obvious but... the name of the group is a clue to its function and purpose: DAY tripping, not WEEK tripping. I think the group failed previously due to poor, clueless, and inattentive leadership, wanting to get out of Dodge for parts faraway (Boston, D.C., NYC, Finger Lakes). How about an hour away, or 30 minutes away? There's lots to explore in our own backyard. Few can take off from work for extended trips of 2-5 days, or afford them. And who wants to spend four hours on a bus to Boston and four hours back, or 3 hours to NYC and three hours back? You are doomed to fail if you don't realize this.

Hi Everyone,
I'm just sending out this email letting you know I've taken over as the Organizer of the Albany Day Trippers Meet-Up group.  I was just looking through the Meet-Up choices yesterday and joined.  Then I got the email that the organizer had stepped down, and this group would be closed if someone didn't want to take over.  I am an event planner as well as work PT for the airlines...I love to travel and am always looking for somewhere new to explore and visit...both close to home and far away..so I hope to come up with some fun trips from 1 day to weekend trips to maybe 1 or 2 that go for 5-7 days...I plan on putting some of these trips out to different Meet-Up groups that might have members that are interested in coming along.
It looks like that there have been some fun ideas put out there but then sometimes not alot of follow-through.  I've read some of the responses for some of the trips, and they weren't all positive.  I hope to change all that and hope all who go on these trips come back with a smile on their faces and will post about the fun they had and hopefully new friends they've made.  If you've got some ideas about places to go, by all means let me know!  If you want to organize a trip, I'm up for that as well...If you would like to be added as a co-organizer, let me know...We can always use more organizers!
I really like the Finger Lakes Wine Country Weekend trip idea and have started looking at hotels and weekends that would be a good time to go...I've been to The Watkins Glen Harbor Hotel that was suggested, and it's absolutely gorgeous...but also pretty expensive during the peak leaf peeping season...I went online to check out rates, and the cheapest I found during the coming month-6 weeks ranged from $250 - over $400 a night...and there wasn't much in availability...There are lots of different towns along the Finger Lakes that we can stay at as well as different hotels in and around Watkins Glen.  We can also go during the holiday season...That's definitely a nice time to go as well!  The Finger Lakes area has lots of events throughout the whole year...I will definitely call different hotels as well as this one and find out what their group rates are if we get enough people to go to qualify for a group rate...I will post a date and place with further details in the next few days!
I hope that all who go see Howe Caverns this weekend as well as the Yankees game has a great time!  I won't be able to make either of these, as I have plans already...so those who organized them and signed up to attend, have fun!
I hope we all get out and explore some really fun places...some in our own back yard...to nearby states and further away as well...in and out of the US...and hopefully make some new friends along the way!  There are so many places to see.  We are only limited by our imagination!...well and our pocketbooks...lol...but my job will be to find the best place at the best price that won't break the bank!
