I wanted to take this opportunity to invite you to the Kappa Charities of the Greater Capital Region, Inc. and the Albany (NY) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.’s upcoming 2013 Black & White Scholarship Ball on Saturday, May 4, 2013. The Scholarship Ball is our major fundraising event which supports our scholarship and mentorship programs. Since our scholarship fund's inception, more than 50 students in the Capital District area have received scholarships.
A very special part of this great event is acknowledging members of the community who have made a positive impact in the areas of community service, mentorship and furthering the education of young people in our communities. This year’s recipients of our Educational Leader Award, Community Service Award and Distinguished Service Award include Shirley Ann Jackson, Ph.D, President of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Betty P. Shadrick, Ph.D, Assistant Dean of Graduate Studies, University at Albany, Reverend Leonard D. Comithier Jr., Pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church, David Bowie, Exchequer, Albany (NY) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Our keynote speaker for the evening will be Dr. John B. King, Commissioner of the New York State Education Department. Dr. King has a very unique background as it relates to education and I’m sure you will find his message interesting.
This year’s event will be held at the Colonie Golf and Country Club located at 141 Maple Road Route 85, Voorheesville, NY 12186. The cocktail hour with open bar will begin at 6:00pm. Tickets for this event are only $85.00 and can be purchased on-line atwww.albanynykappa.com/foundation/scholarship-ball/. Payment can also be made by check. Checks should be made out to Kappa Charities of the Greater Capital Region, Inc. and mailed to P.O. Box 1121, Albany, New York 12201.
Please also consider being a sponsor or taking out an ad in our souvenir journal in support of our scholarship fund. Attached are our 1) Corporate Sponsorship and Souvenir Journal Ad Agreement and 2) Dinner Reservation Form.
