Painting with Light at Elbow falls

Ran by Corey B - Newbies Assistant

Painting with Light at Elbow falls. Thursday, June 25th @ 7:30pm Bridlewood/Somerset C-train park and ride. We did a painting with light meet up last fall and had a blast so let's do it again. This time we are taking the show on the road. We will be shooting elbow falls at night, using spot lights to illuminate the falls. There will be a things to bring to the meet up.

1. A flashlight or lantern with fresh batteries (We will be shooting at night and the trail isn't lit)
2. A floodlight, one of the 1,000,000+ candlepower handheld lights from the hardware store work great.
3. A tripod
4. A shutter release cable (Not an absolute must but it makes things easier)
5. Bug repellent (The mosquitos will be out in full force) As the shoot is out of the city, we should car pool. So if you have extra room in your vehicle, make a note on your RSVP, send me a message or post a comment below. We will be meeting at the Somerset/Bridlewood C-train station park and ride at 7:30pm, then heading to out to Elbow falls. We will leave extra cars at the station and sort out rides there. See you there,Corey

    Hi Ghando,
Try turning off the cameras autofocus. The switch is on the side of the lens.

I had trouble before with trying to shoot with little to no light to start. Without enough exposure, my shutter refused to open, even when i had the speed at multiple seconds. I'm a beginner, is there somehting i'm missing? my camera is a canon rebel xsi.

Thanks. As a happy coincidence I saw in the Canadian Tire flyer that they have a spotlight on sale for Fathers Day.

I picked up a spotlight at Canadian Tire. I can't find the exact one that I got but this one is close, http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4/Auto/AutoParts/AuxiliaryAutoLighting/PRD~[masked]P/Aluminum%2BSpotlight.jsp

You don't really need to spend a lot of money on it either, I think I paid around $30 for mine.
