The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ40, nor the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ428, which I have as a backup, does poorly in low light conditions. This has been true of all these models. I also tried out an Olympus SP-800UZ similar to the Lumix, even more so a low light problem. If the Lumix low light is not a problem for you, then this is a good choice.
