Bike (Old Town to Bethesda) & Lunch

We will bike at an intermediate pace from  north Old Town heading north on the Mt. Vernon Trail, then cross the Canal bridge in Georgetown to access the Capital Crescent trail to Bethesda.   Round trip is about 27 miles--all flat.  Plan on a very brief stop for a drink at Cossi in Bethesda.   The return trip out of Bethesda is easier because of the slight downward slope.   Please make sure your bike is in good condition. Bring a helmet and water! Street parking is available around the Crown plaza hotel and the adjacent tennis courts.

Bike rentals are available at Wheels & Nuts Bike shop located one block from our starting place at the Crown Plaza hotel.

After the ride, the group will choose a restaurant in Old Town or nearby (perhaps Rustico).

This ride is being cross-posted with a few other meetups.

    Hello everyone,

I just wanted to say thank you for all the help provided to me today after I had my allergic reaction. If it wasn't for Steve, KD and V waiting around and then deciding to call 911 I would have been in some trouble. I definitely had an alergic reaction to whatever flew into my head and stung me. At the hospital I got a bit worse and was lucky I was there. After spending the rest of my day in the hospital, I am home now relaxing. Again thanks a bunch.

As for the ride, I really had fun and look forward to future rides (with newly prescribed epi-pen on me). I was upset I couldnt eat a pizza at rustico, but there will be other times.

    See soon

    Joe

Saw a rabbit and a deer near the trail, and a group of Gatsby era dressed cyclist. Fun group of cyclists--I especially enjoyed the post ride lunch/conversation.
