Mission of the Group
Our goal is to have fun and make new friends through the use of face-to-face gaming and social gatherings. We want our new friends to have so much fun that they become old friends.

We have very few rules. The rules are about how Meetup software, hosts, members, and funds interact to accomplish our mission.

Meetup Software
Meetup software provides the primary means for tracking events, RSVP's and for solicitation of new members. Meetup costs the group approximately $12 monthly.

Event Hosts
Event hosts are people who arrange and organize events for the group. Event hosts are “assistant organizers” or AOs. An AO has complete autonomy over his/her events. The AO uses the Meetup Software to schedule events when and where the AO sees fit. The AO uses his/her own resources to secure venues. The AO pays any debts incurred by the event. The AO keeps any fees that the AO collects. The group and the organizer only request that AO welcome any new members who attend the event.

Events
Nearly any fun activity is permitted under the broad umbrella of games and social events. Most events will occur within 5 miles of Alexandria Virginia. Events of most interest to our members are related to gaming and social networking. We have hosted events related to gaming, boardgaming, wargaming, role-playing games, ball-room dancing, barbecues, laser tag, bowling and social get-togethers. Potlucks and dining out are also highly sought-after.

Members
The organizer, the assistant organizer and everyone who has joined the group is a member. The group doesn't exist without members. Members may make use of the software and events in any manner which suits their needs, unless such usage negatively impacts the mission or needs of the group. Members who post negative comments will be warned or removed or banned at the sole discretion of the group's Organizer.

Funds
In the past the group developed a treasury and managed shared funds to cover certain expenses. Henceforth, the management of shared funds is not the purview of this group and the organizer will not be in the business of holding funds.
The only community funds are the funds required to pay for Meetup software. All other funds are disbursed by members to assistant organizers as needed. So long as the group has 10 AO's this fee will be less than $1 monthly.

Sponsors
The Meetup software is paid for by corporate sponsors. Members are encouraged to patronize our sponsors because they enable access to the group at no charge to anyone. Three businesses have stepped forward to sponsor our group. The fee is split equally by our sponsors, and additional sponsors or donors are welcomed to join at any time.

In the unlikely event that there are no corporate sponsors, the Organizer and Assistant Organizers will divide the monthly fee and pay from personal funds on a monthly basis. In such case, the Organizer will remove AO privileges for AO's who do not pay this fee. On any given month that the Organizer must remove an AO for non-payment, the Organizer will recalculate the shared burden immediately.

Organizer
The organizer of this and all Meetup groups is a paying customer of Meetup Inc. As such, it is Meetup's policy that the customer is always right. Those who disagree with the organizer or the direction of the group are encouraged by Meetup (and the organizer) to start their own group (and thus become a customer).

The current organizer of this group has no intentions of stepping down as organizer in the immediately foreseeable future. If the organizer does step down, it's only because his wife looks prettier in the organizer role. If the organizer and his wife step down completely, the organizer will transfer power to the assistant organizer who the organizer thinks is most likely to continue the tradition of sharing that is laid out in this charter.

The new organizer is empowered to endorse, modify or eliminate this charter in any manner the new organizer thinks is best.

If you don't like the new or old organizer or any assistant organizer on a personal level, you don't need to leave the group and you won't be kicked out of the group. Instead, simply avoid attending events where the offending personality is present and the opposition will kindly return the favor.
