The Algiers Historical Society (AHS), was founded in 1999, to promote the history of Algiers and the metro New Orleans area. The AHS has free monthly meetings, open to the public, with speakers on the history of Algiers and beyond, its people, places and events. Also, we have speakers on genealogy, historic preservation, historic dig sites, and recently published books about historical aspects of New Orleans and the surrounding parishes.

We have a quarterly newsletter called "The Algerine" that keeps Algiers’ natives, newcomers and members informed of the AHS events and happenings.

Our meetings are open to the public and are held the 3rd Saturday of each month, unless otherwise noted,  10 AM to 12 Noon, at the Algiers Regional Library, 3014 Holiday Dr., New Orleans Westbank (Algiers), LA 70131. First floor meeting room. Complementary hot coffee, breakfast treats and bottled water are available.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
