Hope Bowdler & Caer Caradoc

  • Jun 19, 2014 · 7:00 PM

Times: Meet at 1845 for a 1900 start.

Meeting point is layby at base of Hope Bowdler Hill. Head into Church Stretton from Shrewsbury and turn left at main crossroads. Up the road heading towards Much Wenlock At the top of the hill on the left is the layby.

Route: Up the farm track towards Gaerstones Farm and then a sharp right. Up to the top of

Hope Bowdler and along the three little summits. Down and across valley floor before a short, quite sharp, climb to the top of Caradoc. Quick stop for a cup of tea before following the Caer Caradoc down past Three Fingers rock, skirt round the base of Halmeth Hill and back to the car.

Expectations. Should take about 2 ½  to 3 hours so quite a late finish. A good level of fitness is required as we do not wish to be out too late and Caradoc is one of the steeper climbs in Shropshire.

Summary. Some of the best views in Shropshire are from these two hills especially across the Shropshire Plain and Wenlock Edge. It is only a short walk of around 7 miles but there are two short, steep climbs and one gentle climb at the end. The pace will be quite gentle as I will still be recovering so well within the capabilities of everybody.

Can somebody give me a lift? :)

Great walk, great company and plenty of great laughs too! 3G walking style!
Best bit was having the captain back at the helm of the ship, where he belongs!
So, happy to have you back with us - you have been greatly missed:) Great leader and greatly missed too - we now have 4G!

That was a lovely walk - thanks Mark.

Nothing to do with the walk though but I did have a 2 1/2 hour journey to Nottingham afterwards :(
(all the usual suspects had road closures).

    See you all again soon.

No comment from Mark about how outnumbered the women are tonight!!!!
Just back from 2 long days of driving and as much as I am sure Kim would love all the men to herself, I need to get off my bottom for a bit!

I did this walk with Mo's group on Sunday and it was great. I would do it again if didn't clash with the football match. Enjoy it.
