The Bach Players return to the light and airy St John Downshire Hill for an exploration of JS Bach and his family friend Pachelbel. You can see the complete programme list here. The scoring, all one-to-a-part, is SATB, flute, oboe, bassoon, string quintet and basso continuo (organ and harpsichord).

Here are video links to Bach's Cantata BWV 84, Musical Offering BWV 1079 and Cantata BWV 99.

As per their previous concert, we will be meeting Nicolette and all the other musicians over a glass of wine during the interval.  I normally ask for tickets to be kept aside for paying on arrival or you can book online via this link. We will meet at the Freemason Arms, the pub opposite the church with its own skittles alley, from 7.30pm. We can go over at 8pm to pick up tickets and sit together.

The Bach Players contrasted cantatas between JS Bach and Pachelbel, with some light orchestral pieces (dances and cannons) in between. The performance was sensitive yet passionate, gently supported by the acoustics of the church. It was great to see so many children, all behaving impeccably, attending. Above all, the church was warm!
