Valley of Fire State Park (map)

All names go on the waiting list:
This ride is a continuation of the Rainbow Ravine, Saturday Ride and is limited because of the shortage of parking at the trailhead. The order of participation will be; Saturday riders that stay overnight at Palm Creek Oasis, Saturday riders that wish to return and then all others. Portions of this ride will be a challenge for the average rider. All are welcome to join us and we will attempt to work each rider thru the technical areas. However, this is not a beginner’s ride and you need to have full confidence in yourself and your horse.
Dragon Wash: We will start by crossing broken ground to the “Double Arch”, then head to the wall of petroglyphs, before making our way up the alluvial fan where we drop into Dragon Wash. Once we are in the bottom of the sandy wash, it’s a lazy winding ride to the “!ZIG ZAG!” and a chance for some to turn back. It’s not that bad and many just walk their horses up this section. From there’s a leisurely walk past the “Bus Stop” to “Table for Two” and the “Dinosaur Skull”. Now it’s time to climb out of the wash, head over to “Kiss the Frog” and check out the colors of “Silica Dome”. We will continue on to “God’s Bowl”, where we will be greeted by the “White Elephant” that guards the entrance. Leaving the bowl, we slide back down into the wash and head for the trailers. Only a few more climbs and scrambles before you are home, safe and sound, with some of the best pictures and a feeling of accomplishment. This ride is 3 to 4 hours.
On the advice of others, I will reiterate the difficulty of this ride. There are rock scrambles, where you horse must be sure footed and place their hooves properly to avoid injury. There are ledges and steep climbs, which require you to keep your weight centered, give your horse his head and trust them as you grab mane. My statement of “home, safe and sound” is one of desire not a guarantee. If you join this ride you may stretch your comfort level. You, as the rider are the only one who can decide to go forward or call it a day. Any rider that joins us and later decides to cut their ride short will be escorted to a point where they are confident that they can return to the staging area on their own. I have many pictures of this ride in my facebook albums. Check them out or use this link to view a few.

I have added a statement of difficulty to the ride description. Please read it and contact me if you need additional information.
The first portion of this ride (to the ZigZag) would rate a 4 or 5 (1 to 10 difficulty scale) is very beautiful and worth the trip. This is not our most technical ride, but from the ZigZag and beyond, there are sections that some folks may rate 7 or 8.
Im so disappointed that i cant make this ride now because Dans Driveline said my truck would be ready yesterday now they are saying monday. NOT HAPPY wont be recommending them to anyone....they have had my truck for over a month
Thanks again Keith and Don for sharing your trail with us. It was a beautiful day with great scenery and great people. Everyone stayed atop their horses which is always a good thing.
Depending on the response, you will receive confirmation of acceptance to join this ride by Friday. Thank you for understanding. We will schedule another ride within the month if we have enough riders that want to go.
