BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse...opening soon...

When was the last time you hit a restaurant during it's grand opening?

Tally's newest restaurant venue is looking real pretty. But how will it stack up in the all important dinner meetup category...hmmm?  And how will the new wait staff adjust to the stress of a BIG meetup group from AAFIT on their very first day?

There's only one way to know the answers to these and other questions...BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse opens probably on October 8, 2013...stay thirsty my friends.

Great restaurant and great conversation! We were all disappointed that those that signed up did not make it and did not remove their RSVP. Let's do better next time folks!

Edwin - thanks for organizing the event. It was a wonderful evening and I absolutely agree with you that we had a great time. We had such a wonderful and flavorful conversation that time just flew by and did not even realize it was past 11:00.

Having been an organizer myself of other groups, I know how much effort is needed to plan an event like this. And when people do not even have the basic courtesy to let the organizer know of their change of plan and just do not show up, I think it is rude and unacceptable. In this day and age of electronics, everyone has access to the internet on the phone or computer and all it takes is 30 seconds to post a message or change your RSVP.
When you do not show up, you are being dis-respectful to the organizer, the other people who have signed up but most important you are depriving the restaurant of revenue and also putting the event organizer as well as the other members in an embarrassing situation.

    Greetings!
I would like to apologize for not showing, however I didn't expect to work so late either. I really and truly wanted to make it and that is why I didn't change my RSVP.
I'm sure you guys had a nice time...AAFT seems like a nice crowd to hang out with; the ones that I met.
    Again, I apologize :~/

Edwin made our group known to the staff, so you had an opportunity to get superior food and service but decided to no show. Its embarrassing to continue telling hostesses that more are coming when in reality, yes, ten or more did not show up. Restaurants won't hold a table for very long and it takes a reservation far in advance to hold a table for 16 or more. Again I only feel for Edwin as he did a marvelous job coordinating the dinner group for the Grand Opening at BJs.

Honest to God, this was the worst attended meetup I personally observed; but it was far and away the best one I have attended! The 4 of us who made the scene-of the 14 who RSVP'd, treated ourselves to a superb evening. We got Table 506 the best seat in the house from 6:30 to 11:00, we got the full BJ's menu, we got Katie our server. I got the spinach stuffed mushrooms, the sirloin, a BP, and a Caesar's salad, and a nice assortment of BJ's beers. Kudos to Andy, Soda, and Elaine for your hospitality and fellowship at supper this evening.

So here is the deal fellow AAFIT particpants...and ya'll know who I'm talking about...Inform yourselves about what it means when you RSVP 'Yes' for a suggested meet up. Consider extending the basic common courtesy to the event as you would expect to receive. It is poor form for AAFIT to ask a venue to set aside seating for 14 when only a table for 4 is needed.

However, for this event, less was more...hehehe.

I acknowledge everthing Edwin pointed out. If you understand that it takes time to make a reservation and to followup with the RSVPs, he is doing one hell of a great job. So it is very discourteous then for those that had not removed their RSVPs or did not contact Edwin to update their status, to be a no show. Edwin had his name at the hostess station and made management and staff aware of the group, so there is simply no excuse for the no shows. I had a great time with Elaine, Soda, and Edwin and the restaurant was fantastic and the staff very helpful and entertaining.

Perhaps the no shows do not know how Meetup works. RSVP "Yes" to attend an event. Remove your RSVP from the list if you are not attending. If you can't get to a computer, then contact Edwin directly to update your situation.

    URGENT...URGENT....URGENT...URGENT.....
    DATE CHANGE!
    DATE CHANGE!
    NEW DATE IS OCTOBER 9..

I was fortunate today. A couple of weeks ago I made reservation to attend BJ's soft opening. Today was the day of the soft opening. Nate is the General Manager of this venue; he is on his seventh BJ's Florida restaurant management job. Nate is elated that AAFIT has made his restaurant a meetup event.

However, Nate asked that we have the AAFIT meetup on OCTOBER 9, 2013, because his restaurant won"t be ready until then. And he told me that we will need a 3 hour call ahead; reservations not required but the call ahead is needed for staff to set up.

So, the new date is OCTOBER 9, 2013. Same time, same place. I will call ahead for us.

BTW, I bet my last dollar y'all will LOVE this place.

I hope this is timely notice and everyone can still attend.

    Regards, Edwin

Thank you Steff for fixing the calendar for this meet up date changes.

I ate there today for lunch and it is hopping with trainees. The lunch was complimentary and that may be why they are only doing reservatons. Apparently the promotion for the complimentary meal is good until the 9th. Great place inside with interesting mural decor.

BJ's is scheduled for their grand opening on Tuesday October 8, 2013. This date may slip depending on the construction schedule.

It is a really good looking building IMHO; they really upgraded that corner of the shopping area.

  • Andy W.

I have watched this thing slow progress so hope the Grand Opening is soon. Should have decent food and microbrews and is about a 15 min walk from work.
