Santa Ana River Water Hike (or Bike Ride) & BBQ

Come One, Come All!

The summer heat is coming to an end so we would like to do the Water Hike one more time and invite everyone along.  There will be an end of season Picnic & BBQ immediately following the water hike at 11am.

HIKE DETAILS:  ** Starts at 8:00am ** Takes place on the beautiful Santa Ana River. This trip will be a timed walk east against the current for approximately 1 hr, then we will be going through a brief desert patch to find the entrance to the Rubidoux Nature Center to sit in the shade and sip on your favorite beverage, then head back to the river to join everyone for the BBQ. There is a chance of seeing great white egrets, endangered sucker fish, the fabled, mysterious Santa Ana Cabana Boy or... even a river vagabond.

Bring drinking water, a pair of shoes you do not mind getting wet and dirty, sunscreen if you burn easily and floaties!  (JK)  :)

BBQ DETAILS:  Since Mark & Sharon will be hosting the Water Hike, we would like to ask if we could get a volunteer or 2 to hold our picnic area at 8:00am.  We are in need of BBQs so if you have one you can bring please post, it would be greatly appreciated!  Please bring your food items to BBQ along with an item to share.  We will bring extra Hot Dogs, utensils, plates, napkins, paper towels and trash bags.  We will be in a grassy area so bring your chair along!  There is a restroom close by.

BIKE RIDE DETAILS:  9:00am - There is also a bike trail for those who may enjoy doing that.  We will need a guide for the group or you can go along at your own pace.  If anyone is interested in this, please also post.

There is a lot of coordinating of details for this event, Hike, Bike, BBQ, so if you can help out in any way, please let us know.

Our greatest needs are:

1.  BBQs

2.  Volleyball net/poles

3.  Host for Bike Ride, if necessary

This event will be cross posted.

Hi I just RSVP'd I'm a tad confused at the questions that pop up. I signed up to do the water hike BUT I was asked if I'm willing to hold a space???? So I'm coming from Palmdale, quite a bit away so I'm not sure if I will make it in time to hold a spot and do the hike and I'm not sure if you can only do one or the other??? I'd like to do the hike and of course be helpful. I guess some clarification is needed, either way I'd love to come.

Cindy - I sent you an e-mail and it appears you didn't get it. No need to come early to save a spot. Please read the e-mail that I just send out as a final recap of the day. We'd love to meet you! :)

Update - John and I will be at the picnic parking area at 9 a.m. with our bikes to ride the bike trail. We have never ridden this portion of the trail so don't know how flat or hilly it is. The other portions we have ridden are fairly flat with some roller coaster inclines....Anyone who wants to join us is free to meet us and ride with us. We will be back for the bbq by 10:30. Bring water and bike helmets if you want to join us. :-)

    My daughter has special needs.
Does this trip require a bike, or is that optional?

If I have a problem with retaining a sitter for my daughter that day I will have to cancel. I will try to let you know the week prior if I have a problem, so someone else can have my spot.
