DRIVING DIRECTIONS:

Locationnear 15152 Penitencia Creek Rd San Jose, CA 95132. . No street address. Parking area is visible in Google Maps if you zoom in sufficiently.

Directions: From Hwy 680, take Mckee Road going east. Turn left on White Road. Turn right on Penitencia Creek Road and follow this road all the way to park entrance. There is a free parking lot just before the entrance kiosk. Keep driving until you get to the second to the last parking lot located in front of the Youth Science Center (almost to the end)


Hike Description: North Rim Trail to Boccardo Trail Open Space

Difficulty: Moderate

Length: 5.7 miles

Elevation: 1,300 ft

Parking fee: $6.00

Driving Directions to the Trails

We'll begin the hike by accessing the North Rim Trail from the Big Bear Parking lot in the park which is at the far west boundary of the park. We'll then proceed along the north side of the canyon where we'll get a panorama view of the Santa Clara Valley and San Francisco Bay from the Eagle Rock Overlook.

Trails on this hike: North Rim Trail> Todd Quick Trail < Boccardo Trail (loop) < Todd Quick Trail < North Rim Trail

Tips: This really is mountain-lion country, though sightings are extremely rare. Check the sign boards for advice what to do if you encounter one.

Bring plenty of water, sunscreen and munchies to eat.

    After our "warm-up" behind the YSI, we began our ascent higher & higher guided by a bright light (aka sun) until we reached the Promised Bench. It was just too bad someone beat us to it. = ) It was a fun hike & nice people.

    Hike was hard but well worth the effort. Elevation 1,886 feet (yeah!). Nice seeing old friends and making new ones :). Good job going uphill and thanks for hanging in there with me while looking for the trailhead :)
