Bushwacking Bren

  • February 2, 2013 · 9:00 AM

I have not done this hike before. I do know that it will be a difficult hike. Bren is the peak just northeast of Golden Gate Mountain in Tucson Mountain Park near Gates Pass. There is no trail for this hike. This means it is a bushwack and we will be route finding as we go. This is not for beginners or people who like to have a good time while they hike.

While it is a fairly short hike, (don't know how far because I haven't done it before) it will gain at least 1500' of elevation gain.

If you sign up for this hike and you are new to this group or I don't know you, be prepared to tell me your hiking experience. If you cannot do this, please don't waste my time. The reasons I do this are to ensure a hiking group of approximately the same hiking abilities as well as make it as safe a hike as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

Bring plenty of water, electrolytes, and snacks.

Hike at your own risk.

There is limited parking at the trailhead so we will meet at the Safeway and try to take as few vehicles as possible to the trailhead. Please be prompt and try to arrive early if possible.

Bren is the peak in the center of the above photo. There is a chance if this hike is easier than expected we may also do Golden Gate Mountain which is the peak on the right side of photo.

Nice short hiking and bushwhacking with great people. Thanks Jeff and Richard for leading us uphills and down. This time I even did not get scratches or any land mines.

"This is not for beginners or people who like to have a good time while they hike" Well, I'll forgo the usual amenities expected of a good time but... hopefully this hike won't draw too much blood from the bushwack experience ;-)

I'll wear my long pants and hope for the BEST -- Bob

I hiked with you from Esperero to Bridal Veil falls. You explained the hike and the pace very well. C'Ya on Saturday -- Bob

I remember you Bob. As an Organizer I can see your history with the group as well. I should have said "if you are new to the group or I don't know you" in my description. My comment to you above was just referring to my "or people who like to have a good time while they hike" statement. Mostly it was put in there as a joke.
