Kimball Loop via Finger Rock/Pima Canyon

Earn that Green Beer! We'll start at Finger RockTrail, head up the steep & possbily still snowy trail to Kimball Peak (which is kind of bland, but still thrilling after all the calf-burning hiking up). Return will be down Pima Cyn Trail, also long an arduous but slightly less so than Finger Rock.

Parts of Pima Canyon Trail are difficult to follow. Also, the whole thing is a steep, long, tough hike, so ONLY SIGN UP if you're ready for 12+ miles on steep, hard-to-follow terrain.

Bring water & food for a full day of hiking. 8 oz/mile is a good rule of thumb if you're unsure. Hike at your own risk.

If you have GPS, or are willing to shuttle, let me know. The photo is from March 9 (thanks, Mr. Tenen, for the hike suggestion) = be prepared for snow!!!

Lisa: Thank you also for your comments. I realize that people can't give a specific time, but a guestimate is helpful and frankly, probably only important to me. :>D Nevertheless, it is helpful to know if it is going to last most of the day or half day, etc. The group has its pattern established and I just am looking to fit in every now and then when there is one local to my home and shorter in duration than the day long hikes. Many thanks all for your comments. Happy trails.

Deb, there are hikes for nearly everyone, regardless of fitness or commitment level. Most hikes are described in terms of distance and difficulty. Because you are interested in shorter hikes, look for ones with shorter distances. A typical pace for a group of fit hikers on moderate terrain is two to three miles per hour. So, for a two-to-three-hour hike, you would want to look for something in the five mile range, and perhaps even less, if the trail is steep/rocky, or you are still developing basic fitness. You may also want to check out some other hiking groups, which post more beginner hikes, such as Tucson Hiking, and Sierra Adventure. Good luck!

Pretty pics. Sorry I missed this. How long does this hike take? It has been offered before, but I never have a sense of how long some of the events will last. Would be helpful to plan time to balance out all the things that need to happen against my energy levels. Thanks.

The great weather and morning shade made for pleasant hiking conditions. Nary a trace of snow was to be found. There were excellent views in many places, especially at the top of Pima Canyon. It was truly a pleasure to hike with such a group of friendly and knowledgeable people. Thanks for organizing this, Lisa!

Forgot to say, I have a gps. Not sure whether I'll be able to shuttle, depends whether my wife needs the car - I'll be on a motorcycle if she does need it.

Please let me know if it's ok to bring 2 guests.

Sure, no problem. As it happens it will be just the 2 of us.

Hi everyone, Snow's melting as we speak - supposed to hit the 90s this weekend down on the desert floor! Hopefully we'll still see patches up high. Either way, it's a tough hike what with elevation & distance & all.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
