Do you love Poison Ivy? Do you love being scratched up and bloody? Do you love the potential to tumble down a steep slope? Do you love rock hopping and smashing your knees, elbows, and shins? If so, please join me on this awesome adventure. The faint of heart need not apply.
Summary: Trail plus bonus miles off trail and in canyon. A required dip in Sabino Canyon! 8 miles ~3000 feet elevation. *I actually have no idea!* If you came last year, don't worry you won't be bored as I am mixing it up by having us go down canyon!
We will park at the Box Camp trailhead. We will hike down the Box Camp trail to the cutoff for the Spring. We'll find Box Spring then continue down into Sabino Canyon. I do know that this section will be quite hard to navigate as it is part of a burn area. It is also going to be very steep and full of lots of lush Poison Ivy. We will go down canyon briefly to a great spot in Sabino Creek in which only the very brave will dare to go for a swim (those who sign up better be brave!).
Then on to the next segment of our hike... We will rock hop, wade, swim if necessary down Sabino Creek to a ridgeline that will take us up to Brinkley Poin. I do recommend to put your valuables in a dry bag just in case. I have no idea what the water levels will be.
Be prepared for off trail hiking, rain, heat, and water. Bring 3+ liters of water, lunch/snacks, dry bag for your valuables, and rain gear.
Remember by going on this hike you agree that you are hiking at your own risk! We will be off trail which can lead to potentially dangerous situations!
