Advanced/Off Trail: Not your typical Elephant Head

A challenge was laid out last summer by a hiker who has been hiking in the area for a long time.  He managed to find a hiking/scrambling/bushwhacking route up  Elephant Head from the North Face.  He has challenged us to retrace his steps and make it to the top!

Stats:  8 miles off trail in varied conditions that will include intense rock scrambling, crawling on hands and knees under a few bushes, and a lot of fun!  Accumulated elevation gain will be 3000 feet.

We will hope to be done in 8 hours.

High clearance vehicles are required.

Bring:

• 5+ liters of water for a possible long day
• LOTS of FOOD!
• Jacket, hat, gloves
• Headlamp, you never know!

HIKING, BUSHWHACKING, and ROCK SCRAMBLING ARE VERY DANGEROUS SPORTS. By attending this hike you are agreeing that you take full responsibility of yourself and the things you do. Hike at your own risk.

All, I decided that the route is probably more intense than what I would be comfortable in completing. So.. I have opted to wait until the next off-trail adventure with a bit less exposure. Have FUN and be SAFE ! - Bob

I think it will be different! Shorter mileage and more interesting!

I am NOT 100% sure yet if we will be in Phoenix or Tucson this weekend, but if I am in Tucson, I'm in :-)

My "yes" is assuming I can ride with someone. I don't have a high clearance vehicle.

Well... this DOES sound like a LOT O' Fun. However, the INTENSE scrambling may be a bit much for this "old Fart".

So... how does the exposure ( to falling to great harm ) compare with the scrambling we did up French Joe's ?

    Similar -- a bit more intense -- a LOT more Intense ?

Inquisitive minds want to know ;-)

Most likely more intense than French Joe....but we have not done this approach before so who knows
