Winterhaven Festival of Lights Hike

This year celebrates the 63nd anniversary of the Winterhaven Festival of Lights! The Winterhaven neighborhood, located in central Tucson, welcomes thousands of visitors every year for two magical weeks in December. Visitors to the Festival will see Winterhaven's majestic trees decorated in dazzling lights and will enjoy seeing wonderful decorations and lights on Winterhaven homes. We will meet somewhere close to the Winterhaven North entrance and start our hike through the neighborhood streets. Please dress warmly, it may be a cold evening. The hike should take 2 hours, beginner and dog friendly hikePlease bring a can of food for the Community Food Bank.

Great idea! It pulled me away from (too much) work. But the group immediately split apart, and it was hard to keep track of other people. I ended up walking with the man I met at the start of the hike -- as I was asking around "is this the Hiking Meetup group?" I'd like to suggest -- as one of the other people I met said while we were walking -- that the leader(s) wear a blinky light or something distinctive (everyone has Santa caps) that makes it easy to reconnect if one of us (like me!) is separated from the group. (I stopped to take a photo, then I lost the man I was walking with as well as the fragment of the group -- including Don -- who he and I were following. From then I was on my own.)

Sorry for the long comment... but this seems like an easy problem to fix.

Charles Manson swastika forehead tattoo, that should solve the Id problems.

Nice neighborhood with wonderful Christmas lights decorated. beautiful! My son and I were 15 minutes late to the meeting point. Unfortunately I could not recognize anyone from our hiking group, but we did have good time there, Watched a mini movie about Christmas story, stayed a short time in front of a fireplace where the lighted helicopter sit on the roof, saw so many unique decorations, ate sweet kettle corns and enjoyed the whole walking...

Today's wet weather finished just in time! Of the approx 80 RVSP's (combining Alt Hiking and Tucson Hiking Meetups), only about 15 showed up to enjoy a surprisingly nice night to wander around Winterhaven. It didn't take long for me to lose track of most of that group in the crowds, but remaining 3 of us had a great time. I hope everyone else did too.

I just RSVPed, and this starts in an hour. I see "somewhere close to the Winterhaven North entrance" in the description, but "Prince Rd & Treat Ave" above that. I'll go to Prince & Treat and look for a big crowd. If this is NOT the right place, and you can call me at 520/[masked] to tell me the right place, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Do u have a certain route planned? I would like to join the group later. (I need to drive my son somewhere else and won't be able to be on time)

No route planned; far too many people to keep everyone together.

Herding ten thousand catnip intoxicated felines is a trivial effort compared to keeping _this_ group intact... ;)

Kelly, I'm sure that Mark also meant to include "family friendly" for this event. Chase and Kinzie are welcome too.
