Hi all, it's been too long! Let's get together over lunch at Christopher's in Porter Square on Saturday Nov 21 at 1pm. I've reserved a table for 10, and I'll adjust per our RSVPs as we get closer to the day. Meanwhile, you might be interested in the issues in the latest Renewable Energy Weekly. Cheers, Josh Dobbelaar

Green Greetings to All, We hope everyone had a good summer and we look forward to helping broaden your horizons through networking and other activities as we head toward 2010. We did not schedule summer Meetups for July & August because of hectic summer schedules and other family activities that we were reminded of by several our members. Our September Meetup is set for September 24th at the Head Quarters of www.AltEstore.com in Hudson, MA. Alt Energy Store started about ten years ago with just a few people and has grown to have a large internet presence, about 35 employees and three offices. Alt E Store provides all things solar & wind including “Do It Yourself” live classes, webinars and a big selection of educational books & videos. Please join us at the Head Quarters in Hudson from 6:30 to 7:30 pm Thursday evening. Our hosts will be two of the founding members of the Alt Energy Store, Nick Albright from the Ohio office and Sascha Deri from the office in Costa Rica. Alt E Store 43 Broad Street, Suite A408 Hudson, MA 01749 978 562-5858 From 495: Take Exit 25A onto Hudson Street. Go about one mile to the 2nd set of stop lights and take a left onto Route 85. Take your first right onto Broad Street. Follow Broad Street for about 3/4 of a mile. On the left hand side after you cross a small bridge you should see a large brick building, known as the Hudson Mills Building, 43 Broad Street. Park in the front and take the main lobby elevator to the 4th floor. The office is on the far Southeast side of the building. Follow the signs to find your way. Please try to be early. First, a few more of you chose the Living Green Festival http://www.meetup.co m/AltEnergyBoston/ca lendar/10390526/ than the Junior Solar Sprints. There are some excellent presentations there. I urge you to look over their schedule.
Second, I'm sick again. Flu I think. So I'm out. I suggest you meet Bart and Hiroko and Dhruv et al at the Living Green Festival, perhaps at the Red Sox Green Monster location at 2p (when the fair officially ends), and then walk together to the nearest restaurant/cafe/piza place, which I hope someone will be able to identify. Sorry I'll miss you again. My efficiency thoughts this week have once again been about some kind of city-wide valet service to reduce the miles of just trying to park, and a re-introduction of very small electric scooters or rail cars throughout the now-emptier streets. Off to bed now for me. Cheers, Josh Dobbelaar, Organizer.

This month, we'll converge on the 6th Annual Sustainable Living Festival Expo in Hull MA Sponsored by Sustainable South Shore. The Expo runs from 10AM-2PM. See the above link for more details. I think you'll be particularly interested in the Hull Wind I Wind Turbine Tours: every 15 minutes, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. I myself am too ill to go today (so disappointed!), but I propose that you meet at 1:30 at Jake's Seafood, right across the street from Hull's famous wooden carousel carousel built in 1928. Cheers, - Josh

The Wayland Sustainability home is a demonstration and educational project full of interesting sustainable materials, fun design / technology & healthy living / energy & money savings and water saving strategies and renewable technologies. Here's a flier. Please note that this is a guided tour, so it is important to be on time. Given the short notice on the $5 Tour fee, I won't ask for (but will accept) the usual $1 Group Support donation. Meetup member Mike LaBonte has set us up for a tour of the Covanta Haverhill, Inc. facility located on a 147 acre area in the Ward Hill Neck section of Haverhill, Massachusetts. The site's Energy from Waste Municipal Waste Combustor, in commercial operation since June 1989, processes up to 1,650 tons of refuse per day, and generates up to 49 megawatts from one condensing steam turbine generator. The energy is sold to an energy wholesaler for use on New England's power grid. Jim Lynch of Covanta Haverhill will be our guide. He doesn't normally show the methane powered generator but agreed to do it for us. And he can give us information about the wind testing they are doing to see if they should build a big wind turbine. Transportation: If you need a ride, please let me know. We'll work out some carpools. Many thanks to Mike for setting this up. Cheers, Josh Dobbelaar Organizer, Boston Area Alt.
