Hope you can make the meeting this week. To get something out of the next meetup, you might want to read the first chapter of http://developer.marklogic.com/inside... as a review of what MarkLogic is. After that, general knowledge of web application development, databases, and search engines will help.
I'd recommend downloading a copy of the server (http://bit.ly/fs4ONf) w/ a community (free) license and trying out a "getting started" tutorial (http://bit.ly/evEcRa).
