What is your personal hope/vision/need for education and schooling?

I think we need to start moving away from public education as we now have it, and back towards a more classical model. I have come to believe that Thomas Dewey was the undoing of education in many respects. I think private schools and home-schools that are competent and well-run should be allowed to flourish and prosper, and that parents have a right to educate their children as they see fit, so long as it doesn't infringe on the rights of others, nor do the results of that education cause others to be harmed. I think standardized testing in the way it's now used is a joke and that Common Core is dangerous in the long run. I also believe that save certain civil rights protections, that the Federal government has no place in education policy formally speaking, although I do believe that Congress and the President do have a right to publicly state their opinions on the direction they think schools should be heading in.

How might Alternatives to Public School be able to help you?

I'd like to learn more about what's out there in the private and home-school world.

Do you bring skills and knowledge that might help the parents, children, teachers here?

I'm a certified business teacher, but have a fairly wide base of knowledge in many disciplines.. I can tutor in business, economics, history, writing, Latin, industrial arts, government and law. I'm also willing to discuss private lessons and classes for home-school/private school parents in any of those disciplines as enrichment/extra course-work for students with interests in those fields.

Introduction

I taught jr./sr. high school and although I don't actively teach at the moment, save for an occasional substitute job and some tutoring, I maintain an interest in education and believe the ed. marketplace needs to be vibrant-including alternatives.
