Let's talk about the Chopin Fantasy. I always wanted to learn it, but seems too maniacal with the 3s against 4s. Any advice for someone cracking the book open for the first time on this piece? The laboring part would be first getting the notes into the hands. What good prereqs would be good to have before embarking on the project?

Finally a quote from the Wikopedia Scriabin page:
In 1892, he graduated with the Little Gold Medal in piano performance, but did not complete a composition degree because of strong differences in personality and musical opinion with Arensky (whose faculty signature is the only one absent from Scriabin's graduation certificate) and an unwillingness to compose pieces in forms that did not interest him.
Musical disagreements have much history, apparently.

Could be the composers have a decided edge on us.....they played their pieces over and over etc. And wrote it down......perhaps wrote what they were 'able' to play......Some of these guys (Beethoven, Liszt......etc. could play better than anyone living today.....and their piece may not be able to be played ....except by someone who has PLAYED AN AWFUL LOT.....an impossiblity for more of us.....we/I am likely never to play some of these pieces as the Composer did (as they were meant to be played? As they were written?
Here is Scriabin playing Etude 8 #12.....the first part is not unlike the way Bill played....the last part seems very Clear....clearer.
At the end of the piece, when Bill played it....I was listening to the Composer....he seemed to want to pound every key at once at the end of the piece.

It was my first musical outing in a while. I have a degree in music ed, had a piano teaching business for a few years, and now busy raising kids and trying to figure out where life's going to take me in the world of public general ed. For right now, I am enjoying being an audience member for once in the musical world. I might sign up and perform sometime for fun.

Its been so long since I played the piano & was taught by my school friend attending a private Catholic school in Durban South Africa. I never was taking piano lessons but learnt quickly & could play the whole song. I have a Wurlitzer organ/piano & have tried to play, but, I'm afraid I can't remember... :-( :-). I'll just be an audience.. I did purchase 2 guitars & tried learning on my own.
