Join our exciting masterclass series for amateur pianists—a first for San Diego!

These masterclasses serve as an important staple to our mission to promote the education and performance of music. The intimate setting provides an enjoyable open-forum discussion and learn how to improve their mastery of the piano. Audience members will not only be able to hear a variety of performed repertoire but also actively engage in discussion with the instructor, student, or even other audience members. There are no intimidating professors; only amateur-to-amateur music lovers.

We accept a maximum of 3 students (subject to repertoire and performance-time availability). Thirty minutes will be devoted to each student and their chosen piece, which can be from any period style (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Modern). I thought this event was very insightful. Participating in as well as spectating the master class has given me a stronger appreciation of the nuances that go into developing quality playing. Additionally, I enjoyed talking with several of the attendees afterwards. I felt it was overall a very supportive environment and look forward to growing as a pianist and a music enthusiast in general as part of this group.

I think Lynn did a great job at teaching and suggesting different techniques that would enhance students performance. I would have like to listen her play and demonstrate students how it should be played. As always very enjoyable and wonderful setting at Gary Poon's home. Thanks Gary for hosting this event.

Thank you, Marylou. It is my absolute pleasure to have these events in my home. Many of you have heard me say this before, but hosting piano events has been a dream come true for me. About a year-and-a-half ago, when I was considering moving here to SD, I spent many nights dreaming about having piano recitals in my new home. In many ways, all of you have helped me fulfill my dream. So, I thank Glenn for starting AmateurPianists, Lynn for doing such a fine job teaching the Master Class, Tony, Max, and Julian for sharing their beautiful pieces with us, and each and every one of you for coming to the event today. I hope to host many more piano events in my home.

I thought Lynn did a good job with the students. I think she could have a bit harsher.
