Limestone Canyon - Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park (often called "Whiting Ranch" for short) is a popular hiking and biking corridor that provides easy access into the wilderness. This hike starts in Serrano Canyon, one of the two largest canyons in Whiting Ranch. This hike climbs up Serrano Canyon through a dense oak woodland and riparian habitat to a landmark known as Sleepy Hollow. THE HIKE is a total round-trip of 4 miles, with only a 200 foot elevation gain/loss. It will be a moderately paced walk through shady oaks and sycamores. Children 5 yrs and up with parent(s) are welcome. Wear sturdy walking shoes or light hiking boots, layered clothing, and sunscreen. Bring water, munchies, and a camera. Sorry, dogs are not permitted. DURATION: At least a couple of hours, depending on the pace of the group. MEET at 8:30 am at the secondary Whiting Ranch Parking Lot just off Glenn Ranch Road, located ¼ mi east of Portola in Foothill Ranch. Rain cancels. A CAR-POOL will be arranged, leaving from the Denny's Restaurant parking lot, located at 3170 Harbor Boulevard in Costa Mesa, just off the 405 freeway. Each passenger will pay the driver $1 to pay for the cost of gasoline. Please be prompt; we will be departing from the parking lot at 8:00 am sharp. If interested, contact Devora at [masked] DRIVING DIRECTIONS: From the 5 freeway coming from the south, exit at El Toro, and take it 4.6 miles northeast (toward the mountains) to Portola Parkway. Turn left onto Portola and continue 0.8 miles to Glenn Ranch Road. Turn right onto Glenn Ranch and drive 0.6 miles to the trailhead parking lot on the left. Parking fee: $3 per vehicle. After the hike, we will go to a local eatery to enjoy a yummy lunch, if the group decides to do so.
