Nine Ladies Stanton Moor walk

A circular walk of 5.5 miles incorporating the Nine Ladies stone circle on Stanton Moor.

http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/daysout/properties/nine-ladies-stone-circle/history-and-research/

This walk will take approx 2.5 hours depending on how long we stop for picnic etc.

There are some hills but I don't plan on running up them!

Suitable footwear needed, and bring a drink etc as required.

Meet at Caudwell's Mill in Rowsley. Parking at the Mill is for customers only so try and find parking along that road near the school or park. Bear in mind it may be busy around there at that time.

Dogs welcome although they may need to be on lead for a lot of the walk due to livestock.

Well 5 of us had a lovely walk and didn't get lost or anything! Just hoping we didn't miss anyone at the start - 3 no-shows who hadn't amended their rsvp, don't think we left anyone but the meeting point was a little vague. We waited 15 minutes past the start time in case they were struggling getting parked.

    1 · August 24

  • Andy

We're hanging around the Mill car park. Parking is chaos due to a car boot sale!

  • Sharon

Really sorry to drop out at last moment but I have a recurring hip injury that has flared up. Will look out for other walks soon

  • Andy

Only thing is we don't quite have the full complement of nine ladies coming so when we do the reenactment of the legend a couple of you lads are going to have to drag up.

Is this walk still happening? And is anyone starting with breakfast or finishing with lunch somewhere?

    August 23

    • Andy

Not sure about breakfast options other than wetherspoons in matlock but the cafe at caudwell's mill (end point of walk) looks nice for lunch - http://www.caudwellsm... . Or there's the Grouse & Claret pub close by though it doesn't look cheap.

Lunch sounds good! We'll have earnt it!!! :-)

      August 23

  • Katy

As noone else wants to host this, unfortunately I will have to cancel it. I will leave the energy open until this evening before deleting it, so if anyone does still want to go and meet you can see who else may be interested and email them

Ok got home and looked at the map. Not sure of the intended route but I can certainly navigate and have a local os map. Happy to go for it if people will bear with us not having prewalked it. Oh and I've been doing big stuff in the lakes today so I may be hobbling round tomorrow :-)

I have changed the date (again!), please update RSVPs as necessary. And if this new date doesn't work out then I will throw a tantrum and give up trying!!

    1 · May 28, 2014

    • Andrea

Hmmm ......tantrum throwing? Is that an idea for another meetup challenge? :-)

Parking can be hard at the mill at that time there is the option to park in the peak village shopping centre about 1/2 mile from the mill! Also the grouse n claret do a nice breakfast ? Just an option if anyone wants to add it as an extra meet up lol ???

  • Sharon

Sorry to hear about your injury an hope it heals soon. Not sure whether or not I can make the new date but so far so good!

    May 28, 2014

  • Gail

I'm happy to reschedule too.. Any Sunday except 8 th June or 13th July if poss.. :-)

    May 28, 2014

  • Brian D.

happy to re-schedule the walk again for later in the summer. hope you are on the mend Katy

    May 28, 2014

  • Katy

I am not going to be able to host this walk due to an injury, but am happy to send the details of the walk to someone if they want to host on my behalf. It's an easy enough route to follow. If anyone would like to host then let me know. Otherwise, please update your RSVPs, bearing in mind the weather is looking to be yucky too. If enough people drop out due to weather/if noone wants to host, then I can reschedule (again!) for about a months time.

    May 27, 2014

  • Gail

The weather is still not looking to good on this date.. :-(

    May 27, 2014

  • Rose

sorry. just realised it is Belper Goes Green weekend and Im working there on the sunday.

    May 10, 2014

  • Katy

Due to popular demand (me being a wuss and Olly agreeing!) I am re-scheduling then to Sunday 1st June. Update RSVPS as applicable please. I hope this new date is good for people.

    1 · May 10, 2014

  • Olly

I was just literally thinking about this. Its quite open to the elements up there and not the best place to get caught in a shower, so might be best to reschedule. But having said that if you still decide to meet up I'll be there, just need to know soon as I'll try and arrange to see my daughter tomorrow otherwise. Oh and if you could rearrange it for another Sunday that would be great :)

    May 10, 2014

  • Katy

The weather for tomorrow looks awful. I can either re-schedule or we can brave it. Votes please!

    May 10, 2014

  • Abi

    Have my kids now :(
