THIS IS A MID-CONTINENT PUBLIC LIBRARY PUBLIC EVENT/TOUR, AND THE REGISTRATION LIST IS FULL NOW. THESE WALKING TOURS FILL UP FAST AND THEY DON'T ACCEPT A WHOLE LOT OF PEOPLE, UNFORTUNATELY. If anyone is still interested in trying to go, you can click on the link below and register your name for the WAITING LIST. Don't count on going, but just in case some people cancel their registrations they will start calling the first ones on the waiting list.
The River Market began as Missouri's river landing for Eastern goods destined for Santa Fe. The market area became a real city in 1867 after the Civil War. We'll discuss the history of the area, tour the city market, and the recently built Main Street bridge which takes us across the railroad tracks to the river.
We will meet at the entrance of the Steamboat Arabia in the city market area (roughly 5th and Walnut) to begin this walking tour.
After driving around the River Market area today/Thursday, there seems to be ample parking there. All the lots I saw seem to have FREE parking, I saw no parking cost signs or time restriction signs on any of them. So, that's good! First choice parking would be right at 5th and Walnut, drive under the River Market entrance sign and there are 4 rows of parking lot there. Second choice parking would be past the River Market entrance on down 5th St. to the next street which is Main. Turn at the Minsky's Pizza there and there is a large lot. There are two other lots there around the Minsky's Pizza across the street also. If these first choices are full (doubtful on a Thursday late morning!), there are two other lots nearby: one lot is at 5th St. and Grand; the other lot is a gravel lot at the intersection of Grand and Missouri Ave.
Looking forward to this.......see everyone there!!
