While change is the buzzword of the day, most of the change around us today, including the much exulted change in the administration, can be considered at the most reactive. Naïve optimism fails with a vengeance when not supplemented by pragmatism and rationalism. Change per se is not enough for life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. Change has to be pro active and, paraphrasing Plato, a beautiful creation. We must understand and prepare ourselves for the change, lest we repeat our errors and thus commit ourselves to another round of failure, frustration, and futility.
We have become a crowded market place full of narrow base specialists with hardly any multi dimensional generalists among us. This generalist, once called a ‘Renaissance Man' or ‘Polymath’, is not only informed and knowledgeable but also wise. It was this type of person who led Europe out of the medieval age into modernity.
This group is an attempt to fill the gap and work towards creating an American Renaissance Polymath Society. Hopefully tomorrow, its enlightened generalists-Karma-Yogi might then usher our civilization into the age of neo-modernity beyond post consumerism and postmodernism.
In this session we will discuss utility of Socratic method if any (if there is any Socratic method and if there is any utility of what is called as Socratic method). Format will be same as last two meetings
