Locanda Del Lago is the closest thing to an institution on 3rd St. Promenade, now entering their 22nd year at 3rd and Arizona. Their menu is different from most LA Italian spots, focusing on the cuisine of the owners' hometown, Bellagio, on Lake Como, in the Northern Italian region of Lombardia.
Once a month, they feature a special "Morso Della Bestia" (bite of the beast) menu, where they focus on one animal and create a special dinner where every course (except dessert) features it. This month's dinner is all about suckling pig:
This month’s menu features:
Milk-fed Suckling Pig
Housemade Pork Liver Sausage Wrapped in Savory Cabbage, Braised in White Wine, Fresh Horseradish Sauce
“Tasta Sale” Spiced Ground Pork, Himalayan Pink Salt, Rigatoni
Piatto di Mezzo
“Guanciale” Pork Cheek Stew, Umbrian Lentils, Soft Polenta
“Porchetta” Slow-Cooked Whole Pig, Deboned & Flavored with Fennel Pollen, Baby Carrots & Pink Lady Apples
Organic Vanilla Gelato, Plum Compote
Locally Sourced Produce from the Santa Monica Farmers’ Market: plums from Pudwill Farms, horseradish from Friendly, Savoy cabbage from Wong, and carrots from Garcia.
The price is only $48, not including tax and tip. Also, our friend Jonathan Mitchell, the General Manager, is offering us free corkage! I'll be bringing a few bottles myself, but if you have anything you think would pair well with suckling pig, bring it along.
$10 reserves your spot. $8 of that will be refunded after you attend the event. The other $2 will be retained as an event fee to support AWSLA and cover PayPal fees. If you cancel at least 24 hours in advance, your deposit will be fully refunded.
