Join AWSLA for our summer wine event - Zinfandel and BBQ.  Zinfandel and BBQ are one of the classic pairings.  We're hosting our annual Zin and BBQ event, Saturday, August 18, at 6 PM, at the home of our members, Marc and Erin, in the Westchester area.

Food will be provided by Chicago For Ribs, including BBQ ribs, BBQ chicken, salad, beans, coleslaw, and corn bread.

You bring the wine: a Zinfandel or Zinfandel blend, priced over $30 or rated 90 points or higher by one of the major wine publications (Wine Specator, Wine Advocate, etc.).  No one will be checking your wine ratings at the door, but please bring something good.  Some examples of good Zin producers include Bedrock, Bella, Robert Biale, Brown, Carlisle, Robert Craig, Dashe, Elyse, Peter Franus, Grgich Hills, Hartford, Linne Calodo, Martinelli, Michael David, Orin Swift, Outpost, Papapietro Perry, A Rafanelli, Ravenswood, Ridge, Rock Wall, Rosenblum, Seghesio, Storybook Mountain, Tobin James, Turley, and Woodenhead.

The cost is $25. There is a $5 discount for AWS members.

RSVP on meetup.com and also email David Kwan at [masked] and tell David which wine you will be bringing.

Also, send a check payable to David K. Kwan to:

What a great group of people...and of course, the wine was excellent. Thank you to our host and hostess for a great time.

This was my first time at a American Wine Society of L.A. tasting. I had a really good time. Met some interesting people and tried some good wines.

Tasted some fabulous zins & met new friends. Host & hostess were warm & welcoming.
Would make it five stars but tried several times to become involved with rating system
And did not find the folks who looked like they knew what they were doing to be friendly or helpful. Willing to give it another try tho!

Dazzling, delightful, delicious, extravaganza with colossal range of Zins, BBQ and fellowship. A night to remember if you can remember after tasting so many super wines.

An extraordinary evening. Intelligent, knowledgeable wine drinkers. An good assortment of fine wines (withe notable exception of a jug of Carlo Rossi White Zinfandel). More wines than any human could have tasted.

I've changed the RSVP's to No for everyone who hasn't paid or at least confirmed they've sent in their payment (or agreed to pay at the event). If you haven't confirmed, but want to attend, we still have a few spots open. Feel free to RSVP as Yes, but please note in your comments that you will pay at the door.

I am available to drive from Santa Monica if anyone wants to carpool. Please send me a message.

Anyone want to carpool from Marina Del Rey/Venice /Santa Monica area?

    August 12, 2012

  • Joan R.

Since I'm guessing so many people could create a parking problem, does anyone want to carpool with me from North Hollywood/Studio City. I can take three people comfortably.

Zinfandel. My favorite varietal. Now what winery? Hmm... this will take some thought.

Hi! Would love to be part of this to break into the group... Can't commit at this stage as I may have to cater a dinner. Was just thinking if having a couple of patrimonios (close cousins to the zin) or a Croatian red even closer may be interesting just to confirm (or not) the kinship. all the best

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
