[university] Let's do this again!

We had a great night with the first [university] MeetUp, and we want to continue, improving on this track (with help of many good and insightful suggestions of the last MeetUp).

Let's discuss another philosopher, who, thought not uncontroversially, has interesting and practical things to offer. We'll discuss Pete Singer and his effective altruism. Watch his fascinating TedX video here: http://www.ted.com/talks/peter_singer_the_why_and_how_of_effective_altruism

Join us and bring your friends, as we've got plenty of space (and beer).

Also please do provide us for any discussion topics or suggestions for how to organize these events!

Hope to see you guys there!

I suppose I have to start somewhere. What do you plan to do with my donations? Im sure you have only the most noble causes in mind.

Last night really forced me to think about charities and giving and ultimately it has inspired me to try harder. Thanks everyone for the discussion - I learnt a lot!

Tonight is gonna be fun! We've got a nice crowd of people coming.

Check out the arguments already (don't worry, we will watch the video tonight):

    Main thesis
    - If we could save someone's life we would do everything
    - It is not morally different whether this person is someone close or far away (geographically)
    - There are ways we can save people's lives, even if they are far away.
    - So we ought to do everything to save any life anywhere on earth.

    do you agree?

    Related questions
    - How much of a difference can you make? How?
    - Isn't charity bureaucratic and ineffective anyway?
    - Isn't it a burden to give up so much?

    Hope to see you tonight!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
