Weekday Outdoor Basketball

  • May 16, 2013 · 6:30 PM

Please let me know if you would like to play outdoor basketball on weeknights, and if so, which weeknight and which location you suggest and/or prefer. There are courts on the Museumplein (but probably quite busy), Ceintuurbaan (busy and very competitive), next to the Erasmuspark (kids may be playing there), close to the Van Hogendorphal and in many other places. I don't know which one would be best in the sense that it's a nice court, likely to be available and conveniently located.

Three things to keep in mind about outdoor games:

1) It is not possible to reserve outdoor courts. This means that the court may be being used by other people when we want to play, and so there is no guarantee that we can actually play there when we want to play, and we won't know before we actually get to the court. It may be possible to join players who are already there though (and players may want to join us).

2) It may rain. A bit of rain isn't so bad but more than a bit becomes problematic, also because fewer people will show up then and we may not have enough players for a good game. So if it is expected to rain when we play the game will be cancelled.

3) The upside of it being impossible to book the courts in advance is that they're free to use, so outdoor games are always free.

    Hi Koen,

I like the initiative. I wasn't able to go this thursday but I do like to see if we can make this happen from time to time. If we can find a decent outdoor court and keep track of the weather forecast, it could work.

I am in Lelylaan, but I am by car so no problem to participate anywhere as soon as there is a parking

Guys, weather sucks but if it is getting better soon I am interested in joining, and maybe get a friend to go too.
I live on the West side of town at the moment so rather on that side if possible...Don't really know good courts here though.
    Looking fwd shooting some hoops!

Is this still on tomorrow? The weather doesn't seem very promising.

no, sadly, the game is not on tomorrow, and because there haven't been many responses I'm not sure we'll be able to play outdoor games this summer in any kind of (semi-)organized way.

Alternatively, people could use this MeetUp page to for example announce that they (1, 2 or more people) will go to play basketball at a certain court on this and this day and that others can join them if they want to. That way, at least you'll have some people for a small game, or you can join people who are already playing there. May be best to use the forum for announcements like that.

Thanks for organising an outdoor game Koen; I'm away next week but after that Tuesday, Wednesday Thursday evenings are good...also East side be more preferable if there are courts but traveling to west not a problem...cheers
