Awesome Drum and Bass at the Melkweg!

Twenty years ago a new sound arose in England that dominated clubs around the country in no time: Drum 'n bass. Artists like Goldie, Grooverider, LTJ Bukem and Roni Size topped the charts. In 2002, Major League put drum 'n bass on the map in Holland with sold-out events.

This year Major League is 10 years old, and February 10th is the launch of 10 Years of Major League tour. The first edition at the Melkweg will include the originators Fabio & Grooverider ... get ready for some serious action!

Fabio and Grooverider

From playing pirate radio to residing at Britain's most exciting and ground breaking clubs, Fabio & Grooverider have forged a path that has shaped the sound of drum 'n' bass and been vital in establishing the house, techno and early breakbeat scenes in the UK.

The duo first hooked up in early 1987 at Phase One, a pirate radio station which also featured the likes of Colin Dale and David Angel. An instant rapport was established as Fabio dropped funk and soul numbers over Grooverider's hip hop beats.

With acid house, they started DJing together at Mendoza's - an after hours haunt in Brixton full of the Shoom crowd. Quickly establishing a name for themselves, they began playing all the major raves, spinning a mixture of Detroit house and early rave.

Fabio & Grooverider have always been a couple of steps ahead of their contemporaries, laying down early European techno way back in 1989, and developing the first UK breakbeat as long ago as 1991 at seminal club night Rage. They've also played extensively on the rave and house circuits for years, both together and separately.

MC Dart

MC Dart is one of the Dutch MC’s you can find at several top Drum ‘n Bass and Dubstep
events in Holland. Resident of Major League and Classified, the PRSPCT Family and Dutch
finest dubstep crew Subway. MC Dart has been chattin’ and spittin for 14 years now…and
still keeps on going strong.

Crew

The people behind the well known Major League parties are the 3 members of the Rotterdam
based Elementz crew. Elementz consists of Pim Schots / DJ Pamb, Lars Dingeman / DJ
Harsh and Myron Freeling / DJ Mynor. Since the beginning of the nineties Elementz has been
active in promoting drum ‘n bass in Holland, at that time driven by Dreazz and Harsh. Their
first professionel parties became a fact in the mid-nineties. In the beginning of 2000 Myron
and Pim joined Elementz. Coming from different backgrounds they soon found themselves
to be a perfect match in organizing events. In 2009 Dreazz has left the Elementz crew to
continue promoting, producing and distributing Drum ‘n Bass, Techno and dance music with
his company Triple Vision.

Since 2000 a lot has happened for both Elementz and drum ‘n bass in Holland. Currently
Elementz is involved in two drum ‘n bass nights: Major League and Classified. Major
League takes place in the best venues in The Netherlands, amongst which the Melkweg in
Amsterdam and Watt in Rotterdam. Major League is also active in Budapest. In collaboration
with Music Center the Netherlands, Major League organizes six events in the Hungarian
capital in 2010.

Harsh

The Rotterdam based DJ Harsh is known for playing diverse styles of drum’n bass, from

funky to tech, but always dance-able and with a sharp edge. You can find him playing not
only at his own nights called Classified at the WATT and Major League, but also throughout
the country and the rest of Europe as a guest DJ. He is a one of the founders of the Elementz
crew who have been throwing Drum ’n Bass parties throughout the Netherlands for over 15
years.
