Let's discuss aspects of morality and ethics! During the last meetup, ethics came up a few times (especially medical ethics), and I thought it would be interesting to explore these issues further.
Before going into specific moral/ethical dilemmas and issues, we can discuss theories of morality itself, such as: is there anything like 'absolute right or wrong', or is it all relative? Where do we get our moral code from? The Wikipedia article on morality gives a superficial but adequate introduction:
Note especially the difference between morality and ethics: morality is the question of what is right or wrong, and ethics is the question of what one ought to do. To put it another way, ethics is the philosophy of morality!
After these basics we can move into specific topics, whether they are simply thought experiments like the 'trolley problem', or topics from real life such as abortion, euthanasia, etc. I invite everyone to think of one or two topics they would like to discuss. If you like you can post them ahead of time in the comments.
Hope to see you there!
