The story of Her is set in the not-too-distant future and profiles the day to day life of Theodore Twombly. Theodore is recovering from a recent divorce and he feels insecure and disconnected in his personal life. His life starts to change, however, when he purchases a new artifically intelligent operating system called OS1. The operating system (Samantha) is one of the first conscious A.I. systems that can evolve, learn and grow.
The movie raises several interesting philosophical questions on the nature of human relations, the mind, love, and consciousness, and it delicately considers the impact of connectivity on dis-connectivity, and vice versa.
If you'd like to come along then please arrange your ticket yourself and let's meet in the foyer at The Movies cinema at about 7:00pm. The movie starts at 7:10pm and runs till about 9:10pm, and afterwards we can stay on for a drink and conversation centered on the themes that emerge through the movie. I'm guessing that there will be some interesting perspectives to share.
Feel free to join just for the drink and conversation part if you have already seen the movie.
Thanks to Virginia for suggesting the movie as an option.
